Scripture:
They went to Moses and Aaron and said, “You have gone too far! Everyone in Israel has been set apart by the Lord, and He is with all of us. What right do you have to act as though you are greater that anyone else among all these people of the Lord?”
Numbers 16:3
Observation:
Korah, Dathan, and Abiram were full time complainers among the ranks of the Levites. Their constant discussions and venting infected 250 other prominent leaders of Israel. As a result, they not only rebelled against Moses and Aaron, but against God. They sounded very spiritual, yet they were very carnal. Their rebellion end up in all kinds of problems, tragedy for themselves, and a plague for the people infected with their complaining.
Application:
As a leader is easy to empathize with Moses and get on his side. We think that anyone who dares to oppose us is going to end up swallowed by the earth. Yet, I need to see this on my own relationship with God. How much do I complain of my current situations? Do I realize the complaining can become a habit that will end up growing and growing until a disaster happens? There’s no point in giving time, effort, and words to complaining. When things get difficult, I must clean my heart right away and find sincere contentment in the provisions of the Lord. I don’t want to build up a mountain of nasty complains behind my back that will end up crushing my life, my ministry, and those around me. I must stay pure and holy in this area!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you for warning me against complaining in my own life and for teaching me how to deal with people that complain. Help us to move from a complaining attitude to a thankful attitude. teach me to deal with authorities when there are disagreements. Help me to be patient with those who disagree with me and instruct us how to stay always respectful of one another. Lord Jesus, I’m truly convinced that you are King over all, including when I deal with complaining leaders. Please help me to arrive in a place where relationships are not severed, but where the truth is spoken with love and humility. Guide all our leaders to a place where they can heal from a complaining spirit Amen.

REDEEMING OUR DIFFICULTIES. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
Seventy years are given to us! Some may even reach eighty. But even the best of these years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we are gone... Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good. Let us see your miracles again; let our children see your glory at work. And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!
Psalm 90:10, 15, 16, 17
Observation:
Moses here expresses a brief definition of reality--Life hurts, but God Heals. Moses was able to see the worse and best in his lifetime. He went from ups and downs, from being abandoned in the river, to be at Pharaoh’s palace, from being a prince to becoming a runaway criminal, from being a simple shepherd to becoming the greatest leader, and from being a simple man to becoming the most humble man on the face of the earth. In all these chapters Moses tastes bitterness, but he also tastes the joy of God’s redeeming power. Moses encourages us to see the redeeming power of God in each adversity.
Application:
We have a faithful God, always ready to display His amazing power in practical ways. I cannot experience the redeeming power of God unless there’s something to be redeemed. God’s favor trumps any difficulty. He redeems our bad experiences and fills our lives with good memories. Blessing cannot exit without a curse. Miracles cannot exist if there is no oppression. Success cannot exist without failure. Currently I’m facing a variety of difficult situations that need God’s intervention with His redeeming power. I need to see some miracles right now! there are marriages that need a miracle. There are children that need to be found. There is vision that needs to be funded. There’s space that we need to find. There’s leaders that need to step aside and leaders that need to step up. In all this circumstances I need to rest in the way Moses prayed to God. I need to seek God’s redemption of the difficult moments.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, please help me to trust in you above anything else. There’s a lot of roadblocks during this leg of the race. It seems that once we got some traction and momentum, some circumstances are increasing my concerns and I cannot see the best out of the worse. Please help me to have redemptive eyes into all these negative situations. Let me have the expectation of seeing miracles within each difficulty. Provide the money to fund your vision where there’s none. Provide new leaders where old ones are quitting. Provide healing where there’s is sickness. Provide movement where there’s has been hesitation. Please show us your approval and make our efforts successful. Amen.

GOD'S LIMITLESS POWER. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
But Moses said, “There are 600,000 foot soldiers here with me, and yet you promised them meat for a whole month! Even if we butchered all our flocks and herds, would that satisfy them? Even if we caught all the fish in the sea, would that be enough”? Then the Lord said to Moses, “Is there any limit to my power? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!” Numbers 11:21-23
Observation:
Moses here is complaining to God. He is rationalizing what God has called him to do and became doubtful of God’s power. But God, in a gentle way, remind moses of who He is and dares him to see what He is about to do. God instructed Moses to tell the people to wait for meat. The task was very difficult to accomplish given the resources and the size of the challenge. Yet, nothing is impossible to God. There is no limit for his power. He can do whatever He wants! His word comes true right in front of their eyes as He provides quail for the Israelites to eat meet until they are sick of it!
Application:
Very often I have a hard time believing In God’s promises for His people. Like Moses, I also end up telling God how big our difficulties are. Instead of telling God how big my problems are, I need to tell my problem how big my God is! It is very important that I continue speaking God’s promises to people. But more important of all, is that I must believe that those promises will become true, whether I think is hard or not. God’s limitless power can reach anything, anyone, at anytime, anywhere. I need to learn how to complain before God. It’s OK to express my unbelief before the Lord, but I must always trust that in my interaction with Him, I will always be overwhelmed by the fact that He is the Almighty God! He can do whatever He wants.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, please forgive me for the many times I doubt in your promises and in your limitless power to accomplish them. Your word will come true in my life and in those around me. Please teach me how to wrestle with you when your promise seems impossible to me. I don’t want to be irreverent, nor unbelieving. I just want to be honest, but never forgetting that you can do whatever you want. Let my life be a reflection of your limitless power. And let us be a church where you can do whatever you want to do. I love you Lord. Amen.

FAITH OVER FEAR. By Ken Primeau
Scripture
And leaving the multitude, they took Him along with them, just as He was, in the boat; and other boats were with Him. And there arose a fierce gale of wind and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up.
And He Himself was in the stern asleep on the cushion; and they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
And being aroused, He rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.
And He said to them, “Why are you so timid? How is it that you have no faith?”
Mark 4:36-40
Observation
Jesus’ statement to the disciples is pretty blunt. “How is it that you have no faith?” Faced with a storm at sea, the disciples panic. Their fear takes over and they worry that they are going to die. Jesus questions why they live in fear? Why don’t they live out of the boldness that God offers? They simply need to have a little faith!
Fear can cripple us. It can take people with good hearts and good intentions and can cripple them so that they are ineffective. Jesus teaches us to live by faith and not by sight. We KNOW that God is powerful. We KNOW that He loves us. We need to trust Him when our fears creep up on us and KNOW that He can overcome.
Application
Fear is an enemy of our relationship with God. God calls us to live by faith and not by sight. Sometimes this involves facing our fears while KNOWING that He will overcome. If I want to live only to the extent that I am capable of then I will shy away from fearful situations and live a life of mediocrity. But if I want to live an extraordinary life for Jesus, even though it is difficult to do, I must face my fears and trust Him so that he will exceed my capabilities and do amazing things.
Prayer
“Lord, help me to have the faith necessary to live in trust of you. Sometimes I am afraid to take a step for fear that I might fall. Help me to walk boldly for you. I pray that I would truly surrender my life to you and that you would use my as you please. IJNA.”

CONDITIONAL BLESSINGS. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
I will live among you, and I will not despise you. I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.
Leviticus 26:11-12
Observation:
The blessings listed in this chapter work under a conditional premise. If the people obeys God’s ways, then they will prime their lives for a life of abundance and blessing. This would cover their financial prosperity, their health, their peace, their success as a nation of leaders, and more than anything, God’s favor and presence among them. All those blessings are tied to the condition of Israel keeping God’s laws and obeying God’s commands. Among all the blessings of obedience promised to Israel, this is the one that is the most attractive of all--relationship with God.
Application:
My obedience and keeping of God’s ways in my daily affairs is what keeps God’s promises for me alive. God is faithful to fulfill all his promises. However, we must remember that we are not faithful to keep our covenant with the Lord. We cannot demand God’s part of the covenant when we are not following our part of the covenant. Very often I listen to people that want God’s blessings and the perks of relationship with him, but they don’t want to follow God’s ways. We forget that God’s love is unconditional, but many of his blessings are not. We want to abuse God’s mercy and love, so we demand God to show us his love by blessing us, even when we disobey His instructions for life. One important key to live under God’s blessings is obedience. And I need to look first at my side of the covenant before anything else. God is faithful to fulfill his promises as long as I’m faithful to walk diligently in all His ways.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, Thank you so much for loving me in spite of my disobedience. Let me walk in obedience before you, following all your ways, humbling and repenting when I walk away form them, restoring always my relationship with you through repentance, and seeking first the kingdom of God and your righteousness. Let me be diligent in honoring my side of the covenant, living in such a way that I don’t disqualify myself from your promises. Help me to discern what is unconditional and what is conditional. I love you Lord. Amen.

FRIENDSHIP & FEAR. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
Friendship with the Lord is reserved for those who fear Him. With them He shares the secrets of His covenant.
Psalm 25:14
Observation:
David uses the terms friendship and fear in the same sentence to describe a thriving relationship with God. How can this be? How these two can work together in harmony? David understood that deeper revelation comes to those who fear the Lord. The key question is, “What does it mean to fear the Lord?”
The answer is encapsulated in different sections of this psalm. Among many things, David highlights the importance of trusting God to guide us through the best path of life and relying in His forgiveness and saving grace. Also, David points out how crucial is to to be humble and honest and holy (integrity) before Him. The triple H principle (Humility, Honesty, Holiness) is also present when we define the fear of the Lord.
Application:
The fear of the Lord and friendship with Him come together in the level of respect and reverence we have for Him. He is a dear friend, yet He is to be revered. His intimate friendship cannot be misunderstood as casual or ordinary. The closer to God we want to be, the higher our regard for Him we should have. We cannot let our respect for God be diminished as we get more comfortable in His presence. The fear of the Lord is not about being suspicious of His punishing hand, but about being reverent of his loving grace. We must be triple H people not because we are afraid of God’s discipline, but because we are afraid of being far away from God. The fear of the Lord is based in our trust that He can guide us successfully through life, that He forgives all our iniquities, and that He extends His saving power to us when we walk in humility, honesty and holiness.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, once again I put my hope in you as the giver of life, the perfect guide of my daily affairs, and the faithful friend that reveals intimate secrets of your covenant to me. As I draw closer to you, please never allow me to take my friendship with you lightly. The more intimacy I develop with you, the more respect and reverence I want to have for you. Let me walk in a godly fear for you. I want to be HHH because I’m afraid to go through life without your guidance, your mercy, your forgiveness, and your protection. I surrender all to you! Let me be a good steward of the things you reveal to me so greater revelation can come into my life. I love you more than life! Amen.

KEYS FOR A BLESSED LIFE. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have right standing with God their savior. They alone may enter God’s presence and worship the God of Israel.
Psalm 24:4-6
Observation:
David reflects in the beauty of God’s presence and about those with the privilege to experience it! Important to notice David’s intent. He wants to reveal the keys for a blessed life. His blessing is not defined by the riches or fame, even though he has all that. His blessing is defined as right standing with God and full access to His presence. He talks about such an intimate friendship with God with passion. He discovered that there are three important things people need to embrace in order to have such a blessing: humility, holiness, and honesty.
Application:
A humble man has clean hands and heart. The purity David talks about here is impossible to achieve unless there’s humility. Just like nobody can stay away from getting dirty when touching coal with white gloves, no person can go through life without being stained by sin. The only solution is found in a humble heart that recognizes the impurity and depends on God’s loving grace and forgiveness to be cleansed. Without humility to repent it’s impossible to develop clean hands and pure heart. When we are humble, the works of our hands and the motivations of our heart will be pure. Humility is the VIP pass to God’s heart. The Lord’s loves and brings closer to Him those who are humble.
David also speaks about holiness--being set apart to worship God alone. Holiness is about dedicating our lives to nothing else but to honor God, not our selfish desires, or manmade idols. Our lives are set apart for holy purposes, not for common purposes. Our lives are not about how much money we can make, or how much we can prove to the world. Holiness is about dedicating every area of our daily lives to serve and honor God. We do not dedicate our lives to Mammon, or to a career, or to a person. Our lives are set apart to worship only Jesus.
Finally, David reveals honesty as the third key for a blessed life and for intimacy with God. Lies and deception cannot be closer to God. The more I choose a life of honest words and motives, the more closer to God I will be. I need to be honest to myself, to others, and to God. Humility helps us to stay honest and honesty helps us to stay humble. And once we are humble and honest, we can remain holy before the Lord. These three keys are only possible because of our Savior King. David recognizes that these three keys are given to us because God is our savior. We cannot save ourselves. We need to depend on Him.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, once again I can see this triple H pattern in your Word of humility, honesty, and holiness. These are the keys for a blessed life and I want to devote my life to embrace these three marks of a blessed man. Please teach me how to become humble as each day goes by. Help me to be truthful and honest in all my dealings with my words and motives. Let everything in my life be dedicated to you and to nobody else. Let my dreams be yours, let my possessions be yours, let my affection be only yours. Thank you for paying the price for me at the cross and for handing me over these three keys. This is not possible to achieve on my own, but because your Holy spirit living in me, I will become more humble, more honest, and more holy. In Jesus name! Amen.

I SURRENDER ALL. By Ken Primeau
Scripture
But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.
Acts 20:24
Observation
Paul was bold and confident for the Lord. Here he tells us that he knows that pain and sorrow is ahead of him. He knows that they end of his life will most likely be at the hands of persecutors who martyr him. But Paul doesn’t shy away from this. He boldly declares that he does not consider his life to be of value to him. He is only concerned with completing the race that God has for him. He only cares about accomplishing the calling that God asked him to do, which is preaching the gospel.
Paul learned what it means to give your life to Christ. He not only said “yes” to Jesus, but also transferred kingship of his life over to God. No longer did he live for his desires and wants. Paul surrendered all to live for Christ and partner in the God’s mission to bring people back to himself.
Application
I’m not there yet in my walk. I still hold onto selfishness. I still am concerned with myself: how I look to others, what I get out of things, etc...
God has been speaking to me lately saying, “I need you to surrender all to me. Lay down your life, your pride, your fears, your desires. Then I can use you in ways you can’t even imagine.” I truly desire to lose my pride and selfishness and to really live my life for Christ, to the point of actually being willing to die for him. He might not ask me to by martyred, but he wants me to martyr my selfishness, pride, fears, etc... so that I fully live for Him and his kingdom.
Prayer
“Lord, continue to prune away my selfish desires. Help me to become a man of God who keeps your priorities at the center of my heart. I surrender all to you and let you lead my life. Use my life as a pleasing sacrifice to you. IJNA.”

ENCOURAGEMENT IN THE FACE OF FEAR. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and told him, “Don’t be afraid! Speak out! Don’t be silent! For I am with you, and no one will harm you because many people here in this city belong to me.” So Paul stayed there for the next year an a half, teaching the word of God.
Acts 18:9-11
Observation:
Paul had endured lots of dangerous situations in all the cities he had visited. At this point in his ministry, he is in Corinth facing similar opposition. The leaders of the Jews are jealous and plot against his life. Paul’s experience and dependence in the Holy Spirit causes him to seek God about His will for him in Corinth. Paul knows that the city is dangerous and the he could die there. Paul is afraid and thinks about laying low, maybe stay quiet for a little while. But he seeks the Lord for guidance. And the Holy Spirit is faithful, and responds in a vision. His words are encouraging and clear. God addresses exactly what Paul needed to hear: assurance of protection that will quench his fears, guidance to do God’s will, and the purpose to stay firm in the assignment, which was the many people that needed to be touched with the Gospel in that city. So Paul stayed there!
Application:
I love the way the Holy Spirit guide us in spite of our fears and limitations. Lately I’ve been exposed to circumstances where certain fears have grown in my heart. On Saturday night, the enemy tried to fuel those fears with disturbing dreams where my marriage and my children where under attack. My own life was being threatened by a spirit of destruction and failure. For a moment I felt really scared and saddened. I wanted to stay quiet! For some reason, the enemy wanted to intimidate me with discouragement and worries. Thank God my wife and friends prayed for me and I was able to speak out the good news of Gods power. This passage confirms what God wants to do in our lives when we feel afraid and disturbed. God is with us and He will not allow harm to come to me or my loved ones because there are many people in our community that need to hear the message. We will not falter, we will not retreat, and we will not give room to the enemy’s lies. We will continue advancing God’s kingdom in Honolulu until every person in the city has a clear opportunity to hear the Gospel and to accept the love of Christ.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you so much for your encouragement and protection in my life and in my family. Thank you for dissipating my fears with the power of your presence. Give me the words that will speak to the hearts of your people! I will not be silent in my assignment to proclaim your good works. I pray that the enemy will be ashamed in his plan to destroy me. Thank you for being faithful to me, to put a hedge around me, and for empowering me to do your will. Use my life, my family, and my ministry, to proclaim the truth to every single person in this city. Let us shine with the power of the resurrection and with the might of your precious love. Use us to bring people closer to you! Amen.

MY BACK IS WATCHED. By Renee Takahashi
Scripture:
Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear?
Acts 15: 10
Observation:
There was a discussion amongst the Jews about the Gentiles having to be circumcised and to obey the law of Moses. The statement came from the Pharisees. After thinking about this statement, Peter got up to say that God accepted the Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit and made no distinction between the Jews and Gentiles. And then he asked the question in verse 10.
Application:
It is a great honor to disciple people. However, we must be very careful not to expect things of them that we cannot do ourselves. We must make sure that our words match our actions, for more than what we tell them, it is our actions that they will follow. There is a Japanese proverb that says: children grow by watching the backs of their parents. This means that parents lead by example. More than what the parents say to the children, the children mature as they watch their parents when the parents may think no one is looking. In other words, does the parent have integrity? Do their actions before an audience remain consistent when there is no audience. How will I be different today because of what I have just read? I will ask the Lord to reveal in me the areas of inconsistency in my life and find accountability to align myself.
Prayer:
Father God, thank you for this heart check this morning You are a God that leads by perfect example. We have a great “back” to watch. You are the same yesterday, today as you will be tomorrow. Father, please show me the areas of my life that I am inconsistent. Things that I ask of those I disciple, especially the children who see me day in and out, that I am not discipline to do for myself. Reveal to me any area of my heart that needs to be recalibrated to your truth, attitude, action. Thank you Father that you are the greatest discipler and that you do not leave me alone to fend for myself. You are always present! In the mighty and matchless name of your son I pray… amen

PURSUING A HUMBLE HEART. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.” And it is one of King David’s descendants, Jesus, who is God’s promised Savior of Israel!
Acts 13:22-23
Observation:
King Saul made many mistakes and he was dismissed and replaced quickly. King David also made many mistakes in his lifetime. However, there’s something different about David. No one else in the Bible is called “a man after God’s heart.” David could be remembered as a vile sinner. He committed adultery, murdered, lied, betrayed his nation, judged poorly, and wasn’t able to manage his home. Almost every time we read abut David, he was doing something wrong, yet God commended his heart. How can we explain this? The main thing is that with every mistake, David found repentance, and learned from his mistakes. He was the king, yet he was able to be humble and teachable. He listened to both critics and enemies. But most of all, he heeded the prophets of the Lord. His humble, repentant, and teachable heart caused God to classify him as Israel’s finest leader. And the best part of all, his heart was the perfect DNA where Jesus is incarnated to bring salvation to His people.
Application:
David gives me so much hope! Just like him, I have committed gross sins. Many times my heart wanders far away from God’s perfect ways and I think I will never be able to undo my mistakes. King David teaches me that humility always pays off... big time! When I’m humble, I can recognize that I’m wrong. As a leader, I don’t know everything, but I’m willing to learn more and more. Refreshing to know that I don’t have to know it all! I can humble myself, ask for forgiveness, repent, and walk away from sin. Every time I fall I can learn valuable lessons that will help me to stay firm when similar situations arrive. I don’t have to be perfect, but I must be humble. Humility is the one trait that causes God to look at us in a more redemptive way. He is attracted to humble people and He wants to use them to spread the DNA that brings the power of salvation in Jesus.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, what a wonderful reminder every year to read this passage on my B-Day. I was born 35 years ago with the purpose to become a man after your own heart. My race has written “Humility” at the finish line. Every year that passes by will be a step closer to become more like you: humble, teachable, and simple. You know the cry of my heart: to be used by you to bring people closer to your throne. I want to have the DNA that ushers in the power of salvation. Please help me to be humble, to recognize my faults, my compulsions, my imperfections, and my sin. Help me to trust your love and grace! Let me seek you daily in repentance, with a humble heart, recognizing that I don’t deserve anything from you, and that every blessing comes because you have favor over me! I’m in the middle of my productive life, and I want to spent the next 35 years becoming a men after your own heart. Let me pass this DNA of humility to my ministry, to my family, to my friends, and to everyone that follows me as a leader. Amen!

EMBRACING HONESTY. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts. Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends. Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the Lord, and keep their promises even when it hurts. Those who lend money without charging interest, and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent. Such people will stand firm forever.
Psalm 15
Observation:
King David understood the value of honesty in order to have a pleasing access into the presence of God. With the same breath, David mentions three things as the character traits of a man after God’s own heart--a blameless life, a righteous life and an honest life. His emphasis on honesty in this psalm is remarkable. A man that walks in the presence of God speaks the truth from a sincere heart. They use their words carefully and avoid gossip, judging, or evil conversations. Also they are faithful to their word and keep their promises even when its painful or inconvenient. They neither hide nor protect themselves with lies or masks. They are honest in all their dealings and they cannot be persuaded with money or power. Because their strength in character, God rewards honest people with more of His presence in their lives.
Application:
If we want the fullness of the presence of the Lord in our lives, we must embrace honesty in all levels of our heart. Honesty is one of the godly character marks that is very easy to compromise in the world we live. Since for many people the truth is relative, many people think they are honest to what they hold true. Their false honesty is based on a false premise and crumbles. Honesty is only honesty when it’s rooted in the truth of God’s principles. And honesty is developed and displayed the most in our conversations! If our hearts are sincere, we will speak the truth in a constructive and encouraging way. Honesty never gossips, nor harms viciously, nor highlights evil above the good. Honesty brings honor and cannot be compromised.
Character development without honesty is destined to fail. We must engage in a consistent and intentional pursuit of honesty in all our conversations and dealings. Brotherly love and sincere affection can only come when we are willing to speak the truth in love. Our skilled words should bring healing and encouragement. We will honor people with our words when they are present the same way than when they are absent. Our words will be the same at all times. Honesty will help us to be skilled spokesmen for the Lord. We must be willing to champion for honesty in our lives. We must fight for the truth, even if we must fight against ourselves. We must honor our promises, do as we say, and put all selfish motives away when embracing honesty. In this way, we will walk into the very presence of God in a way we have never experienced before.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, let me embrace honesty with passion and diligence. Let me speak with a strong conviction about the purity of my motives, the integrity of my heart, and the sincerity of my love for people. Please remove any human tendency in me to speak hurtful words, lies, exaggerations, or any comment that puts others down. Help me to have integrity towards the absent, to speak the same when they are present or when they are not around. Let me be a champion for honesty. Let me be transparent with my words and help me to honor my promises, even when they are hard to fulfill. As I develop more honesty in my life, please fill me with your presence and bring me closer to you! Amen!

JUST AS HE COMMANDS. By Renee Takahashi
Scripture:
Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the LORD had commanded. So Moses blessed them.
Exodus 39:43
Observation:
18 times in Exodus 39 and 40 alone the author presses the point that the things they did with the priestly garments and the tabernacle was precisely as was commanded by the Lord. Almost in every verse, the words “as the Lord commanded Moses/him” is written. As I read through these chapters of Exodus, the chorus “as the Lord commanded” got more familiar and resounded louder with each verse. In verse 43 it says Moses inspected the work of the Israelites and sees that the work they did was just as the Lord had commanded them, so he blesses them. Moses teaches me two things this morning. The first is to pay close attention to the finest detail of what you are instructed to do and pass on the information in tact without changing it. The second is to be able to see that the execution is complete and to bless.
Application:
When I was in production, I had to follow the director’s instructions to the t. And when I delegated, I had to make sure that I passed on what the director said, not what I thought he meant. There was no room for any miscommunication, for a slight misunderstanding would cost thousands of dollars a minute. It was vital to the shoot that everyone was doing just as was commanded. I would venture to say that it’s the same in all things that unity is key to the success of the mission. If I were standing right in front of Moses, I can hear him telling me that more important than me understanding the reason of the instruction, is me hearing, without prejudice, exactly what the command is and to execute as such. I can hear him telling me that when the Lord gives a specific command, that is all the reason I need to make sure the command is executed. And always to remember that relationship is most important at the end of the day and when all the work is done, to bless.
How will I be different today because of what I have just read?
I will pay attention so I can hear instructions in detail to apply to my life, so I can give instruction clearly and I will bless at the end of the day.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for the details in my life, many of which may not make sense at the time, but in the plans you have for me, it turns out to make all the sense in the world. Thank you that you give me Moses to learn that I must listen so carefully to the details for myself, so I know how to pass on the information accurately and so that I know how to observe that it is accomplished. Thank you Lord that you are a God of relationships. Help me always to remember that I am to bless at the end of the day.

FOLLOWING HIS CLOUD. By Kamu Sing
Scripture
In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. So the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel during all their travels.
Exodus 40:36-38
Observation
The Israelites were so faithful to serving God. They paid very close attention to every detail that the Lord had instructed them so that His presence could be made known at the tent of meeting. Their passion for God to be near them drove them to serve in this way. It seems they would do anything for God to be there. They had every intention to be where God was. And if it meant moving camp, they would. If at anytime the cloud of the Lord moved, they would follow.
Application
In my life, this is an exact illustration of how I desire to live. Wherever God is, that’s where I want to be. If God moves, so will I. A lot of times, though, we as Christians or even just people in general, get so comfortable and content with how life is. We settle into what we are used to and are fixed on how things are, to being what God wants. But yet sometimes God calls us to change, He moves His cloud to a different spot and it really is up to us to make a decision to follow. I’m headed toward a season of change and am certain that it’s moving with the cloud of the Lord. This reading confirms with words what I have in my heart to continue to follow after Him no matter how unfamiliar or uncertain I may be.
Prayer
Lord, I believe in Your best for my life. As I walk and grow in this next season, would you continue to provide Your presence in everything I do. I would never want to stray from Your cloud, that if You move, I would be right behind You ready to do as You would instruct of me. I trust in Your plans and not mine. I am Yours. In Jesus name, Amen.
I am Yours. FOLLOW THE CLOUD. By Cory Oliveros
Scripture:
36 Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it. 37 But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted. 38 The cloud of the Lord hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys.
Exodus 40:36-38
Observation:
The Lord had very specific instructions when it came to the set up of the Tabernacle. And although these things were important, I think that the most important instruction was to watch for the cloud. It was the Glory of the Lord and His presence that made this sanctuary holy. Even though the other physical furnishings were nice and the priestly clothes were extravagant, those things would serve no purpose unless His Glory filled the tent. So as soon as God moved, the people knew that it was time to pack it up and follow. And although it wasn’t a permanent building with concrete and drywall, it still sounded like a pretty strenuous task to break everything down and set up again, who knows maybe 10-20 feet away. But the point was to follow and be exactly in the place where He was covering, this was vital to their survival on this journey.
Application:
I can imagine myself complaining about the constant movement and the tedious duties of packing up and setting up. I could imagine the procrastination and saying, “ah the cloud will be there tomorrow, no worry”. I can imagine this because I am like that now in my walk. I wonder why my family and I feel so lost. It’s because God has moved and I’m either busy worrying about something, or procrastinating the move. I heard Pastor Wayne preach about balance once. Basically he mentioned that God will move us through different seasons to make sure our relationships and tasks are balanced. Sometimes He’ll have us focus on our careers, other times He’ll ask us to take a break from everything and really tend to the family. Then He will move us to do different things in ministry. The key is to follow the cloud. That’s how I see this scripture in my personal life.
It’s also very similar for our church family. I, as the worship leader, need to follow where the Lord is leading our Pastor. I believe that the cloud is still an obvious and visible sign in our church today, but visible in different ways. Especially when we look at the spiritual growth in people (through their worship, service, and relationships). And I know as the church leadership, we all need to keep our eyes on His Glory and move together when He moves. It’s important that I encourage my team to be alert and stay on their toes (be in the Word). Once we settle in our own ways, it’ll be hard to pack up and move with God. I realize that may seem tiring and inconvenient, but what is worse is not being in the presence of the Lord. It’s like having a fridge with no food, not even ice. Useless.
It’s time to re-adjust my eyes on the Lord. And really look to where the cloud is now. In my personal relationship with Him, in my marriage, with my kids, in my tentmaking, in ministry, with friends, in finances. I can no longer make money or my personal dreams “my cloud”. Because things will only be cloudy and I’ll be living on a cloud. Ok anyway.
Prayer:
Lord, You are glorious. You see exactly where I am. And I know sometimes You see me walking away from You. I really deserve to be dead right now, but you continue to save me. I owe You so much, but all You want is my love. All You want is for me to follow You. That’s hard sometimes because I’m selfish. Sometimes if Your plans don’t benefit me, I pout. I’m sorry Lord. Take that from my heart. Give me new heart with unselfish love. Pleasing myself and others doesn’t work anymore. It only leads to feeling rejected. Lord, fill my body, my temple with the cloud of Your Glory as I seek You. Help me to understand that being in Your presence is not always an easy-going thing but yet it’s the most fulfilling. My spirit and soul knows this Lord, but my flesh will continue to desire other things to feed it. Holy Spirit, fall in this place that fleshly desires be taken over by the want for more of Your presence and peace. In Jesus’ holy and mighty name. Amen.

PLEASING WORDS AND THOUGHTS. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
May the words of my mouth, and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing to You, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
Observation:
This is one of my favorite David's prayers. His desire is to please God in the outcome of his expressions. He wants each word and each thought to be pleasing before God. Such outcome is the direct result of the intake. Few verses before David muses in how much he loves God’s Word. David breathes in the principles of God and exhales word and thoughts that are pleasing to God. Just like we breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide, there’s a transformation in our lives when we submit to the truth of God’s Word.
Application:
If we want the exterior fruit of words and thoughts that please God, first we must plant the seeds of God’s words and thoughts in our heart. Many times we focus so much in the exterior that we forget the importance of cultivating the interior. Words and thoughts that please God come from our heart when we are diligent to intake regularly His words and thoughts. My diligence must focus in breathing in the Word of God. The Holy Spirit’s job is to work inside my heart and produce things that please God. But if I don’t give the Holy Spirit what He uses to change me, I cannot blame him for a bad fruit. He is always faithful to take my love for God’s Word and turn it into words and thoughts that please God.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, the prayer of my heart is for me to be diligent in loving your Word, in meditating in your commands, in thinking about them often, and in applying them in my life. Please let the transformation of my heart be a reality when I take your revelation and you convert it into incarnation. I want to speak and think like you do! May this season in my life be a time for me to embrace your Word with a stronger desire and more genuine passion. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you! Amen!

RELATIONSHIP ABOVE RELEVANCE. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
15 Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. 16 How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.” 17 The Lord replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.”
Exodus 33:15-17
Observation:
I love the way Moses places His relationship with God above success and relevance. He doesn’t want a blessing without God’s company in the process. He would rather stay in the desert with God than go to the Promised Land without God. Moses understood that God’s presence among them was the key for Israel’s success and distinction. Moses could have God’s presence all for himself. But Moses was vehement in sharing that blessing with the people. Even though the Israelites were stubborn, Moses truly loved them and wanted them to experience a friendship with God just like his. God honors his request and grants him even more of his presence.
Application:
How awesome to walk closer to God as we go in the journey of life! Meaningless to serve him without intimacy with Him, or to grow a church without friendship with God. We must be willing to trade all the relevance and effectiveness of the world for intimacy with God. We can have both, but if we must chose one, we must value our friendship with God above our effectiveness. We don’t want to arrive to the destination with regrets. We would rather arrive a little later, but closer to God, than arrive sooner, far away for God. While in the journey, we will be tested to chose relevance above relationship. We cannot loose this test!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you for loving me and for looking into my life with so much favor and grace. Please help me to pass the test when relevance is more attractive than relationship. I don’t want this journey if implies my separation from your presence. I want a heart that will always move according to where your presence moves. I truly believe that your will is for me to be closer and closer to You every single day. I don’t want a big church, or more influence, or more recognition, or more titles if you are not going to be with me. I love you more than anything! Amen!

SAVED BUT CAPTIVE. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture:
18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given when the apostles laid their hands on people, he offered them money to buy this power. 19 “Let me have this power, too,” he exclaimed, “so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit!” 20 But Peter replied, “May your money be destroyed with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought! 21 You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right with God. 22 Repent of your wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive your evil thoughts, 23 for I can see that you are full of bitter jealousy and are held captive by sin.” 24 “Pray to the Lord for me,” Simon exclaimed, “that these terrible things you’ve said won’t happen to me!”
Acts 8:18-24
Observation:
Simon the magician believed in the message of the Gospel, but still had areas in his heart where the Holy Spirit had to work and change. He was a new believer, but he was power hungry and selfish. Peter gives a diagnosis of his heart’s condition: not right, wicked, full of evil thoughts, full of bitter jealousy, and captive of sin. Simon was saved but captive.
The Bible is clear about the possibility about a person being saved, but captive of sin. Peter’s heart reveals the key to become saved and stay saved--repentance. Simon’s plea to Peter indicates that he is aware of his shortfalls. Simon is not defensive, but his plea leaves much for us to think about. The Bible doesn’t say that Simon repented, only that he asked for prayer. It seems that Simon is already considering other options but repentance. His heart accepted the truth of the Gospel, but he is so controlled by his sinful nature that he doesn’t show determination to walk through the path of repentance in the journey of his salvation.
Application:
Salvation is a journey. I cannot think that once a person raises their hand and repeats the prayer of salvation, our job is finished. Actually, that’s where our job starts! The church should be a place where people take the initial step of salvation, but also where people continue living daily the process of sanctification and take further steps of obedience. We need to help people deal with their compulsions and sinful habits. We need to create a safe environment where people have no excuses to walk in daily repentance.
There are many people like Simon in our church. They are sincere in their initial steps of salvation, but they are being held captives by sinful habits, selfishness, and polluted mindset. We must do everything we can on our side to build solid disciples, to help people to make important decisions, and to assist them as they work their salvation in humility, honesty, and holiness.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you so much for the many hands that are raised every Sunday in our church. This is a sign that your Holy Spirit moves in our services and brings conviction into people’s lives. Please help us to be good stewards of New Believers. Use our church and our leaders to serve people in such a way that they can be saved and stay saved. Use our church to set the captives free. Anoint us so when Simon-like people come to us, we can encourage them to walk in the journey of salvation to us. We don’t want to loose anyone that you give us Lord. Help us to create a church where humility, honesty, and holiness are practiced as we make disciples and build solid lives. We depend on you to help us be effective saving people from the first step to the last. Amen!

SET APART AS HOLY. By Pastor Fernando
Scripture
“Your brother, Aaron, and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, will be set apart from the common people. They will be my priests and will minister to me. Make special clothing for Aaron to show his separation to God—beautiful garments that will lend dignity to his work.”
Exodus 28:1-2
Observation
Moses was instructed to build a medallion out of gold with the inscription, “SET APART AS HOLY TO THE LORD” (v. 36-38). This medallion was attached to the front of Aaron’s turban. God was very intentional to give the people a visual illustration of what being a priest, a minister, is all about. The clothing of the priests was an illustrated sermon to the common people and a constant reminder to the minister about God’s will—holiness for His servants. Holiness does not mean perfection. It means separation for an exclusive lifestyle of service and ministry. The garments communicated service and dignity at the same time. Ministering to God is a privilege that requires a high sense of separation from what is common. As the precious is removed from the ordinary, priests are set apart from what is common, and they are placed in a place of honor and unique intimacy with God.
Application
The New Covenant anoints each member of the body of Christ as a kingdom of priests. God’s will is for each follower of Christ to be a minister before Him, to be set apart for service, to have an exclusive relationship with God, to have a lifestyle of holiness. This year I have embraced three core values to base my life and ministry: humility, honesty, and holiness. When I embrace holiness, there’s a strong sense of purpose in my life and a unique desire to embrace willingly a lifestyle where I’m set apart form the ordinary. Being set apart as holy implies first and foremost, to be in God’s presence to minister directly to Him. I come to the presence of the Lord with full access to the inner court, to the Holy of Holies, to the very heart of God. In that place, I minister to Him, I honor Him, I present myself as a living sacrifice, I sing songs to Him, and I surrender to Him. I’m set apart from this world. God loves me and He has called me, handpicked me, and anointed me, to be set apart for His service. I’m loved by my Father! For that reason, I will let my life be an example of what Holiness is supposed to be. Just like Aaron wore garments and medallions that communicated holiness to the people, I will live a life that communicates to others that I’m not from this world and that I belong to Jesus and His kingdom. That when people see me, they will see in my forehead the inscription “Set apart as holy to the Lord.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for calling me and each one of my brothers and sisters to be set apart as holy to You. Let us embrace that privilege with boldness and passion. Let every word we speak and everything we do communicate that we are holy before you. Reveal me in your grace the areas in my life where I continue engaging in common things, not in holy things. Help me to loose interest in those things that are not holy, and guide me into a lifestyle where I’m set apart for your service. Reveal to me more depth about holiness and transform me into a priest that is holy before you. Let me come daily as your minister, to present myself as a living sacrifice before you, and to bless your heart with my entire life. I’m so thankful for the way you love me! Amen.

FORGIVING WITH YOUR LAST BREATH. By Renee Takahashi
Scripture:
Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.”
Acts 7:60
Observation:
Right in the midst of being yelled at and stoned, Stephen calls out to Jesus to receive his spirit, and before he dies, he calls out to the Lord to not hold the sin of his perpetrators against them. This sounds familiar because that is exactly what Jesus did as He was crucified. In the middle of excruciating anguish, knowing that forgiveness is of the Lord, Stephen with his last breath breathes forgiveness.
Application:
I wonder. If I were ever in the same situation and knew that in just a little while, I would be with Jesus in heaven, and I was suffering great pain and more pain every nano second, would I even have the capacity to think of my perpetrators and ask that their sins not be held against them? Just thinking that when I am in even a little pain, any relief from that would be my focus. Yet Stephen captured the heart and the truth of God. I want to practice that everyday. Even when someone is yelling at me and throwing “stones” at me, I want to forgive. Even when relief is forthcoming and I can get through the pain thinking of my relief rather than worrying about those that hurt me, I want to forgive.
How will I be different today because of what I have just read?
I make the decision today that all that in every situation of pain, grief, sorrow, offense, hurt or attack, I will choose to forgive.
Prayer:
Thank you Father for the gift of forgiveness. Thank you that in your great wisdom you have called us to forgive so that the pain or the offense wouldn’t hold us bondage. You knew that we would sin and be sinned against and have taught us how what to do. You even give us permission to call upon you when we can’t seem to be able to do it on our own. Thank you dear Lord for the example Stephen leaves for us to forgive, even to the point of that being our last breath.
