EXPOSING DECEPTION IN THE CHURCH. By Pastor Fernando

Scripture
But there was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife’s consent, he kept the rest. Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!”
Exodus 20:24-26

Observation
The book of Acts is full of great stories about the Early Church and describes the way the Holy Spirit use them to ignite worldwide revival. However, the story of Ananias & Sapphira reveals a church that is not perfect and that there are brothers and sisters whose hearts are filled by Satan and that will bring deception to the family of God. Luke was compelled by the Holy Spirit to write about them so we can learn in further generations how to keep deception outside from the church.

We can see in this passage that deception has a root in pleasing people. We also read in Exodus 23:1-3, “You must not pass along false rumors. You must not cooperate with evil people by lying on the witness stand. You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you are called to testify in a dispute, do not be swayed by the crowd to twist justice. And do not slant your testimony in favor of a person just because that person is poor.” Ananias plot with Sapphira and tried to please the apostles by giving them a good (but false) impression about their generosity. Maybe they trying to gain some influence in the leadership, or seeking for some selfish gain! However, God revealed their true motives to Peter in a prophetic way. Peter had a word of knowledge. The Holy Spirit revealed to him about what was going on in the darkness and by shining the light of truth into the situation.

Application
We need to understand and expect that within the church people there will be self-seeking motives, hidden agendas, insecurities, and deception. If we are serious about keeping deception outside the camp, we must be willing to be prophetic people, just like Peter was. The Spirit of the living God is the only one capable to reveal the secret things that hide in the darkness of people’s hearts. God will reveal before hand to a prophetic leader about the deceiving intentions of people. And when God does that, we need to be bold to confront and expose deception by speaking the truth in love.

We need to be aware that Satan wants to fill the hearts God’s people with deception. The enemy wants us to think that we can lie to people when in reality we are lying only to ourselves and to God. We need to be aware of our own tendency to feed a spirit of deception. We must watch how we handle rumors. We must be the end of rumors, not a conduit for rumors. We must have integrity towards absent people. We must be willing to speak about other people in the same way whether they are present or not. We need to be the same in public and the same in private. And most of all, we need to pay attention to the Holy Spirit’s promptings. The Lord wants to reveal the motives of people’s hearts. He starts with us. And if we have a small seed of deception, we must get rid of it immediately. Only then, when we don’t have a plank on our eye, we will be able to discern about the speckle in someone else’s eye.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, please forgive me for the times where I entertained the enemy and allowed him to fill my heart with deception. Please change my heart and make me more aware of the tendencies of my flesh and the work of Satan. Guard my heart from lack of integrity towards the absent, and let me be honest and transparent at all times. Let me be the same in private and in public. Let me speak the same way when I’m around people and when I’m alone. And also, please pour out your Holy Spirit over the church so we can confront deception and avoid sinful behavior among our flock. Give our leaders and saints a clear understanding of the prophetic ministry, just like Peter had it when confronting Ananias and Sapphira. Let our church grow in the prophetic as you show us how to expose the hidden works of darkness with the light of your truth. Amen!

DON'T FOLLOW THE CROWD. By Ken Primeau

Scripture
"Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd...”
Exodus 23:2

Observation
This is an important lesson for a follower of God. Don’t take part in the wrong doings of other people just because “everyone else is doing it”. God hasn’t asked us to follow the crowd, He’s asked us to follow Him and live according to His words. This isn’t easy. Sometimes this means going against the flow of what everyone else is doing. This sometimes means stirring things up by standing out as someone who won’t give in to the norms.

Sometimes we simply don’t realize that what we are doing is wrong because we think the standards of right and wrong are determined by what people say. If something is culturally acceptable, then it must be okay! This is not true. The standards of right and wrong are determined by God, whether or not the people around us (even the Christians around us) live accordingly.

Application
I remember as a teenager thinking to myself “I know that the bible says I shouldn’t do this thing, but my older brothers did, so it must not be that bad.” Then I’d follow the crowd in committing sin. This was such a faulty way of thinking. In all things, I must live by God’s standards, not those set by other people and definitely not the ones I make up for myself.

Prayer
“Lord, thank you for challenging me to rise above living in mediocrity. I want to be someone who follows you, whether or not anyone else is. Help me to become the leader who helps show people how to truly live for you. Give me boldness and integrity. IJNA.”

EVERYDAY MIRACLES. By Renee Takahashi

Scripture
…. Why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power of godliness we had made this man walk?
Acts 3:12

Observation
Peter and John healed a beggar that waited at the temple gate, Beautiful, every day. The beggar went walking and jumping into the temple courts praising God. The people, recognizing the beggar were filled with amazement and came running to Peter and John. Peter then uses the opportunity to teach them about Jesus that the people didn’t honor as the son of God. Instead they handed him over to be killed, and disowned him. And then he turned the glory of the man’s healing to faith in Jesus.

Application
Every week, I am honored to talk to quite a number of people. I am happy to lean more and more on the Lord for direction in each conversation. Every once in a while, there is such a profound transformation that happens and the person is thrilled for the changes that are taking place right before them. To some people, it might be common place things, but to us, it’s truly unbelievable, even miraculous. To some it might be just an ordinary act, but we see the hand of God making it extraordinary. Today, I am humbled by this scripture. These unbelievable things shouldn’t hold us by any surprise because by faith in the name of Jesus, these things should be quite ordinary. When we have total belief in Jesus, we can call upon the name of Jesus and it is in the faith that these miracles happen.
Secondly, I understand more and more the power of prayer. I love the opportunity to talk with someone because that means I get to pray with them. I love getting to pray with them because I know God is faithful. It gives God permission to take action to the situation. And I love that because we can pray, the focus is back to the Lord and how in His power the miracles happen. It isn’t their power or my power, but the power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
How will I be different today because of what I have just read?
I will be different because I will acknowledge the power of God in everything that happens around me. That though the miracles will be common place, I will keep the source of the miracle in awe.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, Abba Father, Papa God, you are an awesome God. Thank you for the way you deal with each and every one of us on such a personal level. You know us by name, you know every hair upon our head. Father, we can come to you for everything. And thank you that you stretch us in faith every step of the way. I thank you for the scripture today. I repent that I doubt your power sometimes. I repent that I am surprised because of unbelief by the miracles I see before me. Father, let me see the miracles as part of our daily lives because of the faith I have in you, but never, never let me take your power as common place. I revere you, I fear you, I love you.

BUILDING ALTARS, NOT PEDESTALS. By Pastor Fernando

Scripture
“…The altars you make must be simple altars of earth. Offer on such altars your sacrifices to me… Build altars on the places where I remind you who I am, and I will come and bless you there. If you build altars from stone, use only uncut stones. Do not chip or shape the stones with a tool, for that would make them unfit for holy use. And you may not approach my altar by steps. I f you do, someone may look up under the skirts of your clothing and see you nakedness.”
Exodus 20:24-26

Observation
God instructed Moses to build altars, not pedestals. Altars were built to honor God, not to honor men. Altars help us to focus on God. Pedestals distract us from God and focus in men. In the altar we offer sacrifices to God, we praise Him, and we give ALL the glory to Him. In pedestals we feed the ego of men and we offer our lives to them. We build altars in the places where God reveals who He is. They need to be simple! Simplicity and excellence meet in an altar. Complexity and perfectionism meet in a pedestal. God wants uncut stones, not shaped stones. He wants what He has done in the way He has done it. He doesn’t need the human intervention to reshape what He has done. He simply wants men to bring the stones and pile them up, just as they are. Some men may say, “But if we don’t cut them an fit them nicely, they will not withhold each other.” But God says, “The stones remain unmovable because I withhold them.” Altars are built with stones that depend on God’s presence and faithfulness to be strong. Pedestals are built with cut stones that depend on men’s charisma, drive, innovation, and intelligence to be strong.

Application
We need to make our mind about what kind of life we want to build for the Lord. If we want altars, we need to follow God’s instructions and depend solely in His faithfulness and strength. Altars don’t have steps. God’s presence cannot be elevated in places that require my effort to climb to it. God’s presence is in the midst of His people. Pedestals have steps and elevate men to be adored. Some pedestals have one step and others have multiple steps. The higher the pedestal is established, the more nakedness of men will be revealed. Sooner or later somebody is going to look up, and the view is not going to be pleasant.

That’s why is better to live a life of humility before God—where there’s no steps to climb and where I can see people eye to eye, leveled in the same ground with them, just as we all are leveled at the foot of the cross. Pedestals need to be destroyed. Uncut stones need to replace those men-shaped and spoiled stones. God alone receives the glory. People deserve honor and respect, but we must watch closely for the thin line between giving respect to someone and worship them. Altars have room only for the throne of God. Pedestals have room only for selfishness, ego, and stubbornness.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, let me spent every second of my life building altars, not pedestals. Please don’t let my ministry become a monstrosity but only the reflection of your glory. Humble me every time is necessary, when steps appear unnoticed, and when your uncut stones are replaced by men-shaped ones. Lord, please let me build a life and ministry that depends on your strength and faithfulness, not on my drive, relevance, intelligence, or innovation. In that way, when people see me, they will see uncut stones and say, “Wow, look how great and faithful God is and look at what He has done in his life.” But if the see man-shaped stones the will say, “Wow, look how good and talented that stone cutter is.” Let my life be an altar for your honor and glory, not a pedestal for my debacle and shame. Amen!

40 YEARS SLOW TO OBEY. By Pastor Fernando

Scripture
“…Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure form among all the nations of the earth.; for all the earth belongs to me. And you will be to me a kingdom of priests, my holy nation...” They all responded together, “We will certainly do everything the Lord asks of us.” So Moses brought the people’s answer back to the Lord.
Exodus 19:5-7

Observation
What a great promise from God! It was so moving that the stubborn Israelites vowed unconditional obedience to the Lord. But we know that this never happened. The entire generation had to die in the desert because they weren’t faithful to their vows. Instead, they complained, changed their minds often, disobeyed, lied about it, and rebelled against God and His established leadership. The people sounded more like Pharaoh when making rushed vows that were not serious enough to fulfill. They were 4 seconds quick to listen but 40 years slow to obey.

Application
The second longest distance is the 2 inches from our ear to our brain. Some people take years to think about what God says. They hear it, but in their minds they have a set of roadblocks that causes the seed of the Word to be lost. Many people get stuck here with their own mindset and their unwillingness to accept the truth of God in their minds. But some people, like the people of Israel, were quick to listen! They heard God’s voice and in their minds they decided to follow God’s ways. However, they were slow to obey.

Now, the longest distance is the 18 inches from our mind to our hearts. We know the truth, but we are unable to follow the truth. In our minds we know that we should wait until marriage for sexual intimacy, yet many Christians compromise in this area. We know we must be generous, yet it takes years to start giving some, some more years to give 1% and then, many more years to arrive to the place where we give 10% of our income. We know a lot of stuff, yet we have trouble doing it. Certainly the longest distance is the 18 inches form our mind to heart.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, let me be quick to listen, but also quick to obey. Please forgive me for the many times I’ve been slow to obey your instructions for my life. I cannot fool myself thinking that my slow obedience will somehow honor you. Slow obedience is disobedience by neglect. I don’t want to miss your blessings because it takes years for me to move from revelation to transformation. You have spoken clear instructions for my life and I have not obeyed right away. I have procrastinated and I have been living in disobedience. Please change my heart, and make me quick to listen, but quicker to obey. Let me live under your blessing, as your special treasure, as your child. Amen!

FOOD THAT LOOKS LIKE FLAKES. By Pastor Fernando

Scripture
When the dew disappeared later in the morning, thin flakes, white like frost, covered the ground. The Israelites were puzzled when they saw it. “What is it?” They asked. And Moses told them, “It’s the food the Lord has given you. The Lord says that each household should gather as much as it needs…”
Exodus 16:14-16

Observation
The manna was God’s provision for Israel while in the desert. God promised them to care for them and to sustain them by sending them food. But the manna didn’t look like food at all. It looked like white frost. I can picture in my mind the expression on the people’s faces when they expected something looking like sweet bread from Egypt and god white flakes. “What’s this?” sounded not much like a sincere question motivated by their ignorance, but as an unthankful remark of distaste motivated by their lack of trust in God.

Application
God’s provision for my daily strength sometimes will look and feel like a juicy stake; but very often it will look like white flakes. It’s important to check my attitude and dismiss any thoughts of discontentment when my expectations are not met. I need to be thankful for what God provides for my life and think like a son of a King, not like a slave. Kingdom people recognize God’s food, even when it looks like white flakes. Kingdom people find food in God’s Word where others find stories and irrelevant principles. Can I see God’s rich provision in my life and respond in thanksgiving for it? Or do I doubt that God will give me what I need for that day?

Prayer
Lord Jesus, please forgive me for the many times I approach your word with the wrong attitude, thinking that because I will read a familiar passage, or a difficult part of Scripture, I will not find my daily provision for life. Let me be thankful for what you provide for me, even when it looks and tastes like white flakes. Let me see beyond what I can perceive and let my spirit receive with joy the truths of your Word. Feed me the way you want me to be fed. I will not tell you how to feed me. You already know what I need for each day. I love you Jesus. Amen!

SHORT CUT WARNINGS! By Pastor Fernando

Scripture
When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them on the road that runs through Philistine territory, even though was the shortest way from Egypt to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led them along a route through the wilderness toward the Red Sea, and the Israelites left Egypt like a marching army.
Exodus 13:17-18

Observation
Moses could have led the people through a shorter route, but instead, He led them through the way of the wilderness. The shortest way may not be the shortest way. In fact, it could be the longest way of all. Israel needed to depend on God rather than in Egypt. This couldn’t be done in 40 days or 40 weeks. They needed 40 years to learn how to trust in the Lord. The shortest way would have brought complete rebellion and result in their complete destruction. So God takes them through the wilderness, a place of suffering, a place to be tested, but also a place to be dependent on God.

Application
We need to be aware of our physical eyes' perception of short cuts. What it looks like a short cut could be a maze of deception and confusion. We cannot lose God’s timing in His way to lead us. When walking towards our Promised Land, we must move at God’s pace and towards God’s place. A good thing can easily turn into a bad thing if the timing is not right. Many times the shortest way is not God’s way.

There are a lot of changes coming up that need to happen in my life and in my ministry. There are also a lot of changes happening around me that involve the direction of the church. I need to remember that the shortest way is not necessarily God’s way. The key is to follow the cloud by morning and the Pillar of fire by night. I need to make sure that as a leader, I’m following the Lord, not out of desperation, or with hidden motives. I need to remove myself from seeking any selfish ambition. I must move in a way that is intentional about cultivating relationships with followers, peers, and authorities. If I neglect this, I will end up violating them unnecessarily and unintentionally.

I must watch my heart from honoring innovation above humility and godly procedures. I need to be innovative and implement change! But I will not compromise wisdom and integrity for the sake of being innovative.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you so much for this important reminder in my walk with you. Let me be on the alert for short cuts that will end up in painful detours and help me to avoid them. Please reveal the hidden motives of my heart and of those around me when making important moves towards the Promised Land. Guide us in a way that honors you, that strengthens relationships, and that traces your steps, even if it takes longer than desired. Help us to have discernment about your timing. Help us move according to the command of your voice, not according to the cravings of our heart, nor the desperation of our soul, nor discomforting feelings. Help us to move at your pace and towards your place. Even if others have moved there, let me stay where your grace will be. Maybe they need to move first and grace will be provided for them. But if I move too quickly with them, and you haven’t instructed me to do so, I will not have the grace that they have. Teach me how to be discerning and wise, with a great sense of your timing. Amen!

WOMAN IN RED. By Renee Takahashi

Scripture:
The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
Exodus 12:13

Observation:
The blood of the unblemished lamb was the protection for the Israelites. The Lord would look for the blood and would not destroy those who were covered by it. Today, we don’t have to sacrifice an unblemished lamb, the blood of Jesus is permanent.

Application:
Although Jesus sacrificed his life and shed his blood for us, it is up to me to apply it to every part of my life. I must be diligent to apply it over my mind, my heart, my emotions, my health, my family, my finances, my friends, my situations. The blood has been shed by Jesus and I must by faith believe that as it was back in Egypt, the blood of Jesus today will cover me from destruction.

How will I be different today because of what I have just read? I want to be known as a woman in red. One who has a powerful story of love and redemption One who is known for always applying the blood of Christ in faith over myself and my family, my friends, my life situation. I will proclaim the cleansing and protection of the blood of Jesus over me and those around me. When there are hurts, offenses, and challenges, I will cover it with the blood of Jesus so that it doesn’t root deep in me and I will be protected from bitterness or harshness.

Prayer:
Thank you Father for showing me today that I am to go to the cross and to believe in the blood of Christ as it covers and protects me today as it did the Israelites years ago. You remain the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Hallelujah. There is life in your blood, sweet Jesus. Thank you for cleansing me and protecting me. I apply the blood of Jesus over my family, my friends, our health, our finances, our ministries, our cars, our church. In the mighty and powerful name of Jesus I pray… amen

SEEKING JESUS IN THE WRONG PLACES. By Pastor Fernando

Scripture
The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead!
Luke 24:5-6

Observation
The women had the best intentions when willing to minister to Jesus’ body, but they were looking for the Savior in the wrong place. They forgot what Jesus told them about what would happen three days after his death. They needed to hear that He was alive in order to stop searching for Him among the dead. Their concern for serving the tomb was greater than their concern for reuniting with Him. They were diligent to clean the tomb and to pour oils in His dead body, but they were not diligent to seek and experience the power of His resurrection. In the midst of their distraction, Jesus comes gently and encourages them to look for Him in the right place.

Application
I wonder how many times I seek the Lord in the wrong places. Do I go among the dead to seek the one who is alive? When my church needs direction, where do I go? Do I go to the books of leadership, or to conferences, or to wiser people rather than going to Jesus first? When my heart is fearful and weak, where do I go? Do I go to my hobbies so I can feel better about myself, or to the gym to burn out the adrenaline, rather than going to Jesus first? Where do I go when I fall and sin? Do I go to guilt trips and places of insecurity, or do I go to Jesus to offer me His grace, forgiveness and mercy? I can have the best intentions in the world to find Jesus, but if I seek Him in the wrong places, I will never find Him.

By His grace, He appeared to the women and recalibrated their hearts. In the same way, Jesus is reaching out to me and asking me to recalibrate my heart. My diligence cannot be limited to what I do in ministry, but must embrace who I am in Him. Lately, my ministry has become the only focus of my diligence and effort. The relevance of the church is not what I’m being evaluated for. I need to be at His feet. I need to seek Him. I need to find the power of the resurrection working in my heart. He is all I need! And the quicker I learn where to find Him, the quicker I will find Him.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you so much for your patience and grace over my life. Forgive me for the many times where I look for you in the wrong places. Help me to run to you in such a way that I run towards the right place. I don’t want to be like the marathon runner, who ran with all of his might and passion in order to cross the finish line, but that ran the wrong course of the race. I’m running really heard, and I have the best intentions to find you as I do ministry. Please give me wisdom and discernment to always go to the place where you are. I cannot loose focus in the ministry of my own heart. I need you desperately in this season of my life. I need more of you and less of me. I want to experience the miracle of transformation in my daily habits. Change me and make me more like you. I know that you are among the living, and that you are in Heaven’s throne. So let me seek your face first always, before I go somewhere else. In finding you first, I will find where to go next because I will not go alone, I will be with you. Amen!

WITNESS TO ALL NATIONS. By Ken Primeau

Scripture
45Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things.
Luke 24:45-48

Observation
Israel had forgotten who they really were. God had told Abraham that his descendants would be a great nation and would be blessed to be a blessing. In Genesis 12:3 God says “all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Somehow the Israelites received the first part but forgot the second half of the promise. They knew that they were God’s chosen people, but they interpreted that to mean that everyone else was evil and needed to be avoided.

Jesus open the minds of his disciples after his death and resurrection and teaches them that Israel was meant to be God’s people so that through them repentance and forgiveness could be preached throughout the entire world. God wanted to use Israel to save the entire world to Himself.

Application
As a Christian, it is easy to fall into the same trap as the Jews of Jesus’ time. We begin to think that Jesus died for me and my church and that we should avoid the evil ones (everyone else). We get so caught up in being blessed by God that we forget that he does so in order that we can bless other people. WE ARE WITNESSES of Jesus resurrection. We have seen him change our lives and God wants to use us to preach that message into other people’s lives. We’ve been blessed to be a blessing.

Prayer
“Lord, I want to join in your mission to save the entire world. Thank you for saving me from my wretched state. I pray that I would not become self-focused but would look for those around me who have not witnessed you firsthand. I pray that I would become more bold in sharing my faith with those who don’t know you. Help me to become an evangelist for you. IJNA”.

CURIOSITY THAT KILLED THE CAT. By Tj Gorum.

Scripture
“When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush..."
Exodus 3:4

Observation
For what seems like forever, as far as I can tell, God has not appeared to be active in the midst of Israel. Rather it has seemed like He has forsaken His people under the strong hand of the Egyptians. Even more strange is the fact that God calls to a man in the midst of the wilderness from a burning bush. This man seems to have no intention of ever returning to his people but rather sees a burning bush on the mountain. Moses can’t resist, he must go and see this spectacle. And it is when Moses “strays” from the path that scripture says God was watching and then he called to him. The place/time that God chose to call out to Moses was when he turned aside, not as planned. It seems as if God was watching him very closely and it was during this moment that the Lord was pleased to make one of His greatest appearances of all time.

Application
To be honest sometimes I think I pretend to know more about Christianity than I really do. I tend to think that if we stick on this path for X amount of months that at the end of that path we will meet GOd and be changed forever. But the truth is that although it is good and wise to plan your ways, you never know when and what God is going to do in our lives and make an appearance in our lives. It may be in some of the most seemingly unimportant event, yet that is when God may move the most in our lives or in the life of someone else. You can plan your life as much as you can but if you fail to let the Lord direct your steps than you may indeed miss the Lord in your life. It reminds me of the scripture that says the eyes of the Lord move to and from throughout the earth that He may strongly support those who hearts are completely his.

I need to always leave time/margins for the Lord’s prompting in my life. I don't believe that I should be idle all the time, but my life should not be so busy that I don’t have the time to turn aside and meet the Lord face to face. I must continue to cultivate a sensitivity to His voice and follow His promptings. After all the whole goal of my life is to glorify God and be used by Him. How foolish would it be for me to “plan” and pack my life so tight that when it comes down to it I miss my opportunity to meet God because I am unwilling to turn aside.

Prayer
Father, I am in awe at how great you are in even the littlest things such as a bush. I pray that through Your Spirit I may know when to turn aside and go off on a tangent after you. Lord help me to completely give my heart to you and be diligent to plan my ways but allow you to direct my steps. I love you and trust you. In Jesus name, AMEN

GOD IS THE HERO, NOT ME! By Cory Oliveros

Scripture

22 Then Moses went back to the Lord and protested, “Why have you brought all this trouble on your own people, Lord? Why did you send me? 23 Ever since I came to Pharaoh as your spokesman, he has been even more brutal to your people. And you have done nothing to rescue them!”
Exodus 5:22

26 But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.
Luke 22:26

Observation
In the beginning of Exodus, God calls Moses on a special mission. He chooses Moses to be the leader of this great Exodus. But Moses tries to get out of it afraid that he is not qualified enough. More so, Moses is afraid people won’t believe him. It’s interesting to read how many times God had to take to convince Moses to go. Wouldn’t you think that this amazing spectacle (the burning bush) would give Moses all the motivation to go and obey immediately? I think that probably freaked him out even more because it let him know that this was something serious. If God, himself, has to come down and ask you, you’d better not screw up like you did before. Moses must’ve thought, man it would be junk if I got involved again and got people into trouble. But it was time for Moses to come out of that comfortable life he was living and step into exercising his faith. Then, the worst scenario happens. It’s crazy, because God let’s Moses know that Pharaoh will be hard. But I guess sometimes, even when you know it’s coming, it still hurts. For Moses, I can see how much it brought him down because this is like his worst nightmare. Finally, stepping out to do God’s work and trying not to fail. At the same time, worried about what people think. We who are reading this story know the outcome and that everything goes as God plans. But at the time, Moses does not know or rather does not have faith in what God had already promised.

Application
I am exactly this way sometimes. It would totally kill me if I let people down. I’d feel so bad if I failed people. Because deep inside, I want to be great and successful in all that I do. That’s ok, but not if I’m trying to steal the glory from the Lord. See, Moses realized later that God’s plan went forward despite what Moses felt or believed. Despite all the circumstances and situation, God brought the victory. I realize that God is not calling me to be a hero, He’s calling me to be a leader. He’s not calling me to have all the right words to say at the opportune moments. He’s calling me to listen and to be ready to deliver. He is the hero, and I get to be a part of His victory as I serve and lead. In this scripture He’s reminding me that things are going to be rough ahead. But press through because His plans are for us to prosper, to have a future and a hope. But I must look for Him wholeheartedly, then He will come and bring restoration and fullness. He is my God, my Hero.

Prayer
Lord, thank you for this awesome word and promise. I repent for my worry of what others think over what You think. All that should matter to me is that You are pleased. So now I choose to live to please You alone and to serve You as a leader. Use me today and give me Your directions to follow. Please forgive me when I doubt, and allow me to press through all of that. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

SUBMITTED TO WHO? By Pastor Fernando

Scripture
15 Then Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, gave this order to the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah: 16 “When you help the Hebrew women as they give birth, watch as they deliver. If the baby is a boy, kill him; if it is a girl, let her live.” 17 But because the midwives feared God, they refused to obey the king’s orders. They allowed the boys to live, too. 18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives. “Why have you done this?” he demanded. “Why have you allowed the boys to live?” 19 “The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women,” the midwives replied. “They are more vigorous and have their babies so quickly that we cannot get there in time.” 20 So God was good to the midwives, and the Israelites continued to multiply, growing more and more powerful. 21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own. 22 Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Throw every newborn Hebrew boy into the Nile River. But you may let the girls live.”
Exodus 1:15-22

Observation
Two women, midwifes appointed to take care of the Hebrew deliveries, were wrapped in the dilemma of submission to authorities. Obviously, their loyalty belonged to the King of Egypt, and they were supposed to follow his orders. However, this time, the orders of Pharaoh were unreasonable and cruel. He ordered the women to become murders of the male babies among the Hebrews. He was afraid of how the Israelites were growing and instead of trusting them he wanted them discouraged and dead. He slave them and use them to build his own vision. His focus was in his kingdom, not in what God wanted to do with His people. Interesting to know what would happen if Pharaoh decided to release God's people into their vision to conquer the promised land. Egypt could have become the greatest ally of God's people. But instead of becoming the greatest dream releaser, Pharaoh became the greatest dream crusher.

At one point, the midwives were helpers in bringing forth life. But now, they had orders to end life. They were in the midst of a crucial crossroad. And they decided to stay on the side of life! So they undermined Pharaoh and continue delivering male babies. When confronted by Pharaoh, they even lied about the circumstances. The amazing thing here is that God’s Word says that The Lord blessed these women for their actions and for demonstrating that they feared God. They risked it all for what was right and were shrewd about the way to cover their actions.

Application
Both, the Old Testament and the New Testament support the principle of submission to authorities. The leaders that rule over our lives, believers or not, have been appointed by God. Many times people will disagree with their decisions. But in those times where their decisions and commands demand that the people of God compromise the clear principles of the word of God, the people of God can stand up and oppose unreasonable and cruel orders. This decision is easy! This is not license for rebellious activism, but permission to extend compassion when authorities above us neglect it. Now, circumstances where authorities are evil and demand our blind obedience and allegiance are not frequent. The more recurrent problem is when their vision and direction clashes with what God speaks to us. In circumstances like these, we need to ask, “Who am I submitted to?”

As a shepherd of God’s flock, I would for people to be submitted to me—that when I speak a command, people would follow without questioning. However, above all things, people need to be submitted to God and His Word. If I ask them to do something that is unbiblical, they shouldn’t submit to me! If I ask them to do something that opposes what God has revealed to them, they shouldn’t follow me. They should follow what the Holy Spirit speaks to them. Their loyalty is to God and His Word, not to me. In the same way, my loyalty is to God and His Word. The key is to follow the example of these two midwives, to fear God (not men) and to do what is right (not what is convenient) in all circumstances. In this way, we can trust that The Lord will bless us and lead us as we follow His will for our lives.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, please help me to stay loyal to you and to your Word all the days of my life. Let me seek your face about the direction you have for my life and for the people you have entrusted me to shepherd. Let me surrender my life and my dreams for the sake of seeing your will accomplished. Let me release with gladness those who have a different vision than mine. Also, show me when those above me are following a vision that is not for me. Give me the boldness to follow your instructions without breaking relationship. As I seek your face, reveal the specific steps I need to take to follow you will, not mine. I am submitted to you! Amen.

SUCCESS IS FROM GOD. By Ken Primeau

Scripture
38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God? 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discerning and wise as you are. 40 You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command. Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you. 41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt. 42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph's hand, and clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck.
Genesis 41:38-42

Observation
Joseph’s life is like a roller coaster ride. One minute he’s in Palestine and happy as the favorite of 12 sons to his father, then he’s a slave to some traders, then he’s one of the most powerful people in Egypt as he works in the home of potiphor. Soon again he is brought down low as he is falsely accused and thrown into prison. The ride then goes back up a steep hill as he becomes #2 in the whole land of Egypt. Talk about ups and downs, hills and valleys. Life wasn’t always fair to Joseph. It wasn’t always easy. But regardless of his circumstances, Joseph remains faithful to God and continually overcomes any hardship that comes his way.

What was Joseph’s secret to success? There are a lot of popular books today that deal with the topic of success, but Joseph’s secret wasn’t complicated by 21 laws of success. Joseph’s secret was quite simple: Genesis 39:2 says, “2 The LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 His master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD caused all that he did to succeed in his hands.” Joseph had success simply because God was with him. God caused him to be successful and everything he did to succeed. Joseph simply walked with God and no matter the situation was faithful in doing whatever God wanted him to do.

Application
We have a lot to learn from Joseph. When things don’t go our way, we are easily tempted to resort to a bad attitude and to start pointing the blame on other people or on God. “It’s not fair!” “How come this guy gets that and I don’t?” and such thoughts start crossing our minds... none of which help the situations get any better. We begin to reason with God that we will be really good and try really hard when he hooks us up with a large ministry, enormous influence, and a large platform to prove ourselves. Joseph’s story teaches us that it’s not our ability that brings us success, but simply the Lords blessing. Our responsibility is to be obedient with whatever is in front of us. No matter if we’re in the presence of a king or in the depth of a pit, we are God’s chosen who have been put there for a reason. God will bless us when we live a life of obedience to Him.

Prayer
“Lord, I sometimes seek after the wrong things. I try to become successful on my own strength, thinking that my efforts will bring about recognition. In reality, you are the one who I should try to please and you are the the who brings success. I pray that I would be a faithful servant no matter how big or small my ministry platforms are. IJNA.”

JOSEPH SHARES HIS DREAM. By Ken Primeau

Scripture
5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. 6 He said to them, "Listen to this dream I had: 7 We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it." 8 His brothers said to him, "Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?" And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.
Genesis 37:5-8

Observation
In Joseph’s youth, he lacked wisdom. Got had gifted this young man with the ability to see visions. Joseph was blessed to see visions of what the future would hold and how he would be blessed and become a ruler over his eleven brothers. But Joseph was still young and foolish at the time and he blurts out to his brothers, telling them the vision he had seen.
Joseph’s giftedness was not a substitute for wisdom. His immaturity causes his brothers to despise him and Joseph gets sold into slavery.

But maybe Joseph actually did the right thing? Maybe he was supposed to share this message with his brothers. Maybe that was God’s will? Joseph probably knew that his brothers were not going to be happy about it. Maybe he knew that he would be persecuted for it, but God had spoken to him and he felt the need to share.

Application
God sometimes speaks to us things that are not to be shared with everyone. We need discernment to know who and when it is suitable to share. How can I apply this lesson in my own life? Be wise on when is the right timing to share something and to whom you should share it with. If Joseph was justified in his actions, then the lesson to be learned is that no matter how unpopular a message may make us, we must share what God tells us to say. It’s not about popularity, but about being obedient to God.

Prayer
“Lord, help me to understand this scripture better. I pray for more discernment and wisdom in what I say and do. I pray that I would have the boldness of Joseph to say whatever it is you reveal to me, no matter how unpopular it makes me. IJNA.”

FAITHFUL & DILIGENT SHEPHERDS. By Pastor Fernando

Scripture
3 So Jesus told them this story: 4 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. 6 When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!
Luke 15:3-7

Observation
Amazing how the shepherd leaves behind the other 99 sheep in the wilderness in order to go out and seek for the one lost sheep. At first glimpse you think that the shepherd is extremely passionate about the lost to the point of neglecting the others. But this is not the nature of the shepherd. He is not controlled by impulses or emotions. He is able to leave them behind because he has been diligent. This is an important detail, because the shepherd doesn’t leave the sheep unattended while he goes out in His rescue mission. The only way that the story makes sense is if the shepherd has created an environment where the sheep are safe, even when he is gone. In that way, he is free to go, knowing that the 99 others will be OK in his absence, because there’s other faithful shepherds with him that will take good care of the sheep. Good shepherds are not only passionate about the lost, but diligent to take care of the flock through a team of equally minded shepherds.

Application
Discipleship doesn’t have to be sacrificed for the sake of evangelism. Passion for the Lost without diligence towards those who are won can result in a very destructive environment. This is comforting to know, that in this matter, we can do evangelism and discipleship with excellence when we develop a group of likeminded shepherds that understand the importance of the mission. Bringing people closer to God implies going to seek the lost and nurture those who are found. Some people are miles away from God, and others are yards away from God. All of them need shepherd to guide them. That’s the reason I need to keep cultivating a team of shepherds that understand this principle well and that shepherd people with a big heart. I must continue training shepherds. Good shepherds will always be good leaders. Not every good leader is a good shepherd. I couldn’t be at peace going to seek the lost if the team back home is not strong. And when we find the lost and bring them back to our Father’s house, we rejoice together the same way that Jesus described when the shepherd gathers his friends, his fellow shepherds, for the celebration.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you so much for giving our church such an amazing group of shepherds and leaders that allow me to go out and seek the lost. Please help us to keep a balanced passion to bring people closer to God in evangelism and discipleship, and that we will never have to sacrifice one for the other. We pray that you will continue rising up shepherds in our church to lead your people and keep them closer to you. Amen!

HUMBLE CHECKS. By Cory Oliveros

Scripture
"For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 14:11

Observation
God puts it plain and simple in this scripture. The more we strive to be recognized, we can count on the “humble checks”. Could you imagine in this scene of the banquet, where the usher informs you that there’s someone more important than you that needs your seat, please move to the rear. Ouch, humble check. I think…no, I know we all get them (humble checks). It’s good for us though, because it puts things into perspective.

Application
I can recall one of my biggest “humble-checks”. It was my Senior year in high school. At the time I considered myself to be top 10 amongst the coolest, ha, ha. Until…homecoming game. It was probably one of the most important nights of my high school life, a night that would be written in the history of Moanalua High School. Anyway, being that I was the Senior Class President and in charge of the Homecoming Game program, I decided to put myself in the schedule to sing the national anthem during the pre-game show. That didn’t work out to well since I was out of breath due to pre-game stretching and warm-ups. Still that’s not highlight of the night. You see, after halftime the cheerleaders always hold up a few long banners for us to break through and enter onto the field for the second half. Well, cool ‘ole me decides secretly to be the first one out, ahead of the pack, to break the banners by myself and shine before the hundreds that came to see me. I know, I was pretty pathetic. Anyway, as I violently tear through the banners, I suddenly realize that I’m going at a speed that I’m not used to. Note that I am carrying about 10 lbs from my helmet and shoulder pads, therefore making me top heavy. Now, just imagine it in slow motion with me as I start to lunge forward into an uncontrollable tumble. All is silent in my helmet as I lay there with a huge chunk of grass lodged in my facemask. Then, I rise up to my feet and I’m overwhelmed with a roar of laughter and knee slapping. Can you say HUMBLE-CHECK! Much needed though, and now I can look back and kinda-laugh about it. Ha, very funny Lord.

Prayer
Lord, I thank You for these humble checks. In fact, I ask for more of them. I want to have a servant’s heart. I want to get into the habit and lifestyle of putting others first. Show me Your ways. Amen.

SEEING GOD'S SMILE. By Pastor Fernando

Scripture
… Jacob said, “for what a relief is to see your friendly smile. It is like seeing the smile of God!” Genesis 33:10

Observation
The intensity of the sibling rivalry between Esau and Jacob came to a point where their relationship was completely destroyed. After Jacob stole Esau’s blessing, Esau sought to kill Jacob. So Jacob ran away from him. 20 years later, God instructs Jacob to return home; but Esau’s camp is on the way. In order to obey God, Jacob has to face his brother, not knowing of the consequences. He is afraid of the confrontation and he tries to appease Esau with presents—many of them. The only comfort Jacob has is God’s promise of blessing and protection for him and his descendants. He obeys and trusts God for a miracle—to be protected from the rage of his brother. And even though he has faith, Jacob expects the worse! But God does the miracle and gives him favor with Esau. Instead of a foe, Esau became a friend. Instead of seeing rage in his brother’s face, Jacob saw a smile. This was refreshing, as if he was seeing the smile of God! And Jacob knows a lot about God’s face because he saw it. The night before, Jacob saw God at Peniel and he said, “I’ve seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared.” Jacob saw the similarities between his encounter with God and his encounter with Esau. Jacob found God’s smile in the midst of the reconciliation with his brother and in the forgiveness of past offenses. What a wonderful thing to see when two brothers are reconciled, it’s like seeing God’s smile!

Application
Many times God will call us into a new place where we need to pass by an unresolved situation of past offenses and unforgiveness. Maybe Esau already forgave Jacob, but in order to experience restoration, they needed closure and speak that forgiveness to one another. Jacob is wise and shows his heart with valuable presents! He is humble before his brother—he calls himself “servant” and refers to his brother as “master.” This is Jacob’s way to say, “I’m sorry brother, I want to repay you for what I did to you.” And this works! When we set our hearts to seek reconciliation from past offenses God will help us and protect us.

Many times we continue living our days with unresolved broken relationships. Sometimes we still carry past offenses and we haven’t forgiven the offender. And sometimes, we forgive past offenses, but we never express that forgiveness. We need to learn that God smiles when reconciliation happens between people. God loves peacemaking. And we, God’s children, should be very intentional in making God’s smile. Because when we see our brother looking at us with a smile, we will see God’s smiling to us. There’s nothing more refreshing than knowing God smiles when he sees me working hard in forgiving past offenses and in restoring those I offended in the past.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for directing me into places where I must deal with unresolved broken relationships. Please help me to trust you when facing people I offended in the past. Let me be humble before them, willing to ask forgiveness, and eager to give restitution for the hurts I caused. Let me follow Jacob’s example of trust and humility. Also, let me be gracious when encountering those who have offended me in the past. Let me express my forgiveness to them, so they do not live wondering if I forgave them or not! Let me smile over them and let them smile over me. In that way, we will see your smile over us and we will give you glory and praise with our lives! Let me be a peacemaker and one of those children that bring a smile on your face often. Amen!

SELECTIVE VISION. By Pastor Fernando Castillo

Scripture
“Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is bad, your body is filled with darkness. Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.” Luke 11:34-36

Observation
In this passage, Jesus Himself shows the importance of selective vision. The way we see things determines the way our heart will be. If our eyes are fixed into bad things, darkness will come into our hearts. If our eyes are fixed into good things, light will illuminate everything, even the dark corners of our hearts. Jesus also warns about the possibility of fooling ourselves confusing what is darkness with light. We cannot say, “I’m have light because I can fix my eyes in bad things without compromising my heart.” The fruit of our lives will reflect what we have in our hearts. If our fruit is love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, we have light in our heart, and our eyes are fixed in good things. But if we lack the fruit, then we must recognize that our heart has darkened corners because our eyes have been fixed in bad things.

Application
Our sinful nature is fed everyday by what we see and it’s especially attracted to what Paul calls, “the lust of the eye.” We are prompt to see things with jealousy, or with envy, or with lust, or even with selfishness. The problem arises when our eyes become trained to see things with a dark angle and a bad habit is created. Our eye feeds our hearts, so if we are not careful, our mind can become an X rated theater, or a playground for envy. This issue is at the very core of our temptations and we are able to train our eyes to be fixed only in what is good, our lives will be radiant, as though a floodlight were feeling us with the Lord’s light.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, please forgive me for my tendency to fix my eyes in the wrong things. Help me to have and honor a covenant with my eyes. Help me to always see people with the eyes of a servant, not with the eyes of a master. Teach me how to see material things with admiration, not with indignation or envy. Let me fix my thoughts in whatever is pure, kind, good, true, and worthy of praise. Let my heart be filled with light and expel any darkened corners. Let me be rich in the fruit that your light produces in me. Let me be more like you! Amen.

STOPPING GENERATIONAL SINS. By Ken Primeau

Scripture
When the men of the place asked about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “my wife,” thinking, “the men of the place might kill me on account of Rebekah, for she is beautiful.” Genesis 26:7

Observation
Isaac, the son of Abraham, failed to learn from his father’s mistakes. Abraham had twice faked that his wife was his sister so that outside rulers wouldn’t harm him. Both times we see that it wasn’t the smartest thing to do. Isaac, instead of learning from his father’s mistakes, repeats the same generational sin.

Application
We need to learn from others mistakes instead of repeating them over and over again. If we want to advance God’s kingdom, we are going to need to learn his ways not from trial and error, but from the wisdom of others.
What sins can I learn from other people instead of repeating for myself? Neglect of family, sexual sin, not spending time with my children, etc...

Prayer
“Lord, give me discernment to see my pitfalls and to learn from other’s experiences. I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes that I’ve seen others make. Teach me your ways lord so that I don’t need to fall to learn the lessons. In Jesus Name Amen.”

HOW TO HELP OTHERS! By Renee Takahashi

Scripture:
"But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled along, came down to where he was; and when he SAW him, he was moved with pity and sympathy, And WENT TO HIM and dressed his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying “TAKE CARE OF HIM; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I return." Luke 10: 33-35

Observation
This is the popular story about the Good Samaritan. It shares the story of a Samaritan who came upon a beaten man alongside the road. When the Samaritan SAW him, he had pity upon the man and went to him helped him. And then when he could do all that he could for the moment, he asked the innkeeper for help. Of all the times I have read this scripture, I only saw the perspective about the Samaritan being the one you would not expect to help, being the one with the heart to help. I learned that what being a “neighbor” meant Today, my eyes are open to a different view. I see clear instructions on what is asked of me to help someone. First I must SEE the person, then go to the person. and be aware that the person needs help. Then, I must recognize that I may not be able to do it on my own and that I may need someone to help me care for the person.

Application
To help someone who is in need and going through some difficult times, I must first SEE it. I cannot be so wrapped up in my own world that I am not aware of things that are going on around me. I cannot be focused on me and miss those the Lord is bringing around me for me to SEE! And I must go to the person and not expect that someone in need will ask for help. He may be walking through life not even knowing how to ask for help. I must go to him. Finally, it is ok to extend a hand to someone even when I don’t have all the answers. I can direct him to the proper resources. I don’t have to feel that I have to “save” this person, for the Lord is our Savior and I can lean on Him for wisdom on how the Lord want me to take care of the person.
How will I be different today because of what I have just read?
I will be different by asking the Lord to show me those around me that He wants me to help. I will ask God to give me clear direction on how to help that person.

Prayer
Father God, thank you for the opportunity to serve you by serving another. Thank you that you will make clear to me who around me you would like me to see and go to, and that you will give me wisdom on how to help and best care for that person. Thank you Father, that I do not have to search; but that if I remain in you, you will direct my path. I don’t want to miss the opportunity and not be a neighbor to whomever you have assigned for me to be. Thank you Father for your love! In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray… amen!

THE TEST OF FAITH & OBEDIENCE. By Pastor Fernando Castillo

Scripture
“Later on God tested Abraham’s faith and obedience.” Genesis 22:1

Observation
Later on, in the mature years of his life, Abraham endured a difficult test that would reflect the true condition of his heart towards God. He waited for God’s promise of a son with Sarah. This son represented a greater promise of blessing and now, God was asking him to sacrifice him as a burnt offering. Abraham’s resolve to obey God’s instruction and his faith to believe in the provision of God helped him to endure the test. As a result, God secured Abraham’s blessing and all the nations of the earth have been blessed because of him.

But this wasn’t Abraham’s first test of faith and obedience. In the past he endured other similar tests and he didn’t performed very well. He had troubles believing in the provision of God for a son, so Ishmael was born out of his own attempt to provide for himself. His faith was also tested when coming to Abimelech and risked his wife’s integrity because he was afraid of being killed. He failed several times, but as he learned the lessons and grew older and more solid in his relationship with God, he was able to endure the test that will secure the greatest blessing in his life.

Application
We all endure tests of faith and obedience in our lifetime. They come unannounced, like pop quizzes. You don’t have time to study the lessons. In those moments, you will show what you really have. You cannot make up answers or try to impress with wordy essays. You have to act and say the exact stuff. No room for error! A great blessing is on the line. Would I pass the test?

Tallying my performance and comparing failed against passed tests will probably result in a disappointing conclusion. But if I focus my attention in the lessons learned and in the insight God has given me on all those past experiences, I’m confident and encouraged to face new tests as they come. One thing I know: when I fail, He comes to comfort me, to pick me up and to provide grace to start all over again; and when I pass the test, He will secure the blessings he has promised. In both scenarios I’m blessed! But everything builds up to what’s coming next, to an increase of God’s glory in my life, to the development of a heart that is more devoted to God, and to the transformation of my character into Christ likeness.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, please forgive me for the many tests I fail every single day. Thank you for the many tests that I pass every day! When I fail your grace sustains me and when I succeed your grace enables me. It’s all about you! Please, prepare me as new tests arrive and new decisions need to be made. I need your strength to trust you when my faith seems small. Give me perseverance to obey your word when my flesh seems to have more control. Let me grow in maturity, just like Abraham did in the later days of his life. Help me to pass the tests of faith and obedience so your name is glorified as greater blessings are released in my life. Amen!

SEEDS OF PERSEVERANCE. By Kamu Sing

Scripture
"But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop."
Luke 8:15

Observation

Jesus spoke in parables many times throughout his ministry. While doing that He explains that those who have ears will hear and those who have eyes will see. He speaks of the parable of the sower, and how there were four areas that the seed would be scattered, along the path, on the rock, among the thorns, and on good soil. As we continue reading in Luke 8, Jesus describes each place the seeds were scattered and its meaning. God calls for us to live by His word. As we do so, we will be tested. Some will have God’s word taken from their hearts by the enemy, others will not have enough root to hold themselves grounded, and even there will be those who will be choked by life and all its worries. But God calls us to retain His word and persevere.

Application
When I heard this word persevere, it was an instant reminder of what God asks from me to do daily as I strive to live for Him. Following Christ isn’t easy and was never promised to be. But as we follow Him and continually sow our seeds on fertile soil, we will grow in our maturity in Christ, being tested, and pressed to persevere through the storms that may come our way. One of the scriptures that I hold close to me is in James 1:2-4 where it speaks of us to persevere through trials and that as we do that we will be whole and complete, lacking in nothing. I don’t want to go through life missing out on all the joy that God has set before me, because of my immaturity, or lack of depth. I want to persevere through all that God has placed in my life that I may sow seed on good soil, persevere, and produce a crop full of good fruit.

Prayer
Lord, I receive Your words this morning. I choose to sow the seeds that you’ve given me on good soil. Help me to follow Your ways, the best way I know how. I choose to persevere as a sort of resolution for 2008 but more for a goal of my life. I know that it isn’t easy but with You all things are possible. Please walk along side of me and guide me as I continue pressing through in this journey of life, so that I may do Your will and nothing else. I want nothing more but to bring You glory. I love you, in Jesus name. Amen.
