5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. 6 He said to them, "Listen to this dream I had: 7 We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it." 8 His brothers said to him, "Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?" And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.
Genesis 37:5-8
Observation
In Joseph’s youth, he lacked wisdom. Got had gifted this young man with the ability to see visions. Joseph was blessed to see visions of what the future would hold and how he would be blessed and become a ruler over his eleven brothers. But Joseph was still young and foolish at the time and he blurts out to his brothers, telling them the vision he had seen.
Joseph’s giftedness was not a substitute for wisdom. His immaturity causes his brothers to despise him and Joseph gets sold into slavery.
But maybe Joseph actually did the right thing? Maybe he was supposed to share this message with his brothers. Maybe that was God’s will? Joseph probably knew that his brothers were not going to be happy about it. Maybe he knew that he would be persecuted for it, but God had spoken to him and he felt the need to share.
Application
God sometimes speaks to us things that are not to be shared with everyone. We need discernment to know who and when it is suitable to share. How can I apply this lesson in my own life? Be wise on when is the right timing to share something and to whom you should share it with. If Joseph was justified in his actions, then the lesson to be learned is that no matter how unpopular a message may make us, we must share what God tells us to say. It’s not about popularity, but about being obedient to God.
Prayer
“Lord, help me to understand this scripture better. I pray for more discernment and wisdom in what I say and do. I pray that I would have the boldness of Joseph to say whatever it is you reveal to me, no matter how unpopular it makes me. IJNA.”

Great Observations Ken! The Bible never says that Joseph did wrong in sharing with his brothers. We may think that wasn't prudent! when you think about it, Joseph at 17 years of age had a lot of integrity and did the right thing, even if it meant to be unpopular with his brothers, That;s why he reported their wrongdoings to his father. If it wasn't for Joseph sharing of the dreams, he wouldn't be sent to Egypt and become a great leader. Good food for thought! The lesson for all of us is to be humble and do the right thing, even if it costs our lives and our dreams.
